Stamp Size Selection Guide for Clearer Workflows

Stamp Size Selection Guide for Clearer Workflows

Stamps that are too small will make your message illegible. Ones that are too big can dominate whatever they are being used on. Whether its a form, label or envelope. We hope this stamp size guide will allow you to pick the correct self-inking stamp size to fill the space you have. While giving you enough room for information you want to display and last many uses per day.

You will want to pick the size that will display your information legibly. And still leave some room on what you are using it for. Most likely you will want the size that you will be using most frequently.

What area will you be stamping?

Take a look at what you will be stamping on. You want to know the size that will best fit that area. Whether it's a form you want to put a return address on. Or maybe a message that you want on top of something you will be signing. Know your area and measure what space you will have to work with.

Allow some extra room when using a stamp on a form. You don't want it touching any lines or writing that may be near your stamp. Make sure your stamp will not cover anything you want on the envelope as well.

When deciding what size to purchase base it off what you will be using most. It's better to have a smaller stamp that can be used on all of your needs. Then having something larger that only works on a couple things. But if you will have room to use a bigger stamp then feel free to.

What shape do you want?

Once you have your size decided you will want to know what shape would be best for your needs.

Rectangular

If you want to use your stamp for an address or have a message. Then you should probably go with a rectangular self-inking stamp. They are best used for things that will be written from left to right. Like a company name and address. Or a message you want to use often in your office.

If you only have a small amount of wording then you can use a narrow rectangular stamp. You can also use a wider rectangle if you have an address or want more room to fit your message. Don't cram too much on a small rectangular stamp if it will cause the type to get too small.

Square

If you want something that will have the same length as width. Then a square stamp would be best for you. Many use these for return addresses and common office messages. Or if you want to put your logo with a couple lines of information under it.

If you want your stamp to look nice and center a square may work best. But if you have more words on one line than the others you will probably want to use a rectangle.

Round

Round stamps are typically used as seals or for a more official look. You can use them to have information around a name or date. These can be great for official use and make your stamp look nice.

Just be aware that if you need to fit a lot of information on a round stamp. You may need to increase the size to ensure everything is legible.

Decide by what you want to put on it

If you plan on having just your name and address. You can fit that on a small stamp. If you want your company name, department, address and phone number. You will most likely want to increase your size to medium or large.

Small stamps are best for a few words or simple information. Medium will allow for more information and is good for most addresses and office messages. Large stamps can hold your business information and even logos.

Here are some tips that you should probably use a larger stamp.

    • Company name or address is longer then the rest of your information.
    • You want to fit at least 5 lines of information.
    • You want to add a logo or frame around your information.
    • Your information will need to be seen on invoices, boxes etc.

Don't have too much empty room on your stamp either. Having a lot of empty space will look weird if your only putting your name on it. But having your information spread too far can take away from your message.

How many times will you use your stamp?

You will want to pick a size that can fit what you will be doing with it. If your using a stamp often you may want something bigger. So you don't have to use a smaller size that can cause your type to get small. Its always better to have room to show what you want on your stamp.

If your running a office you will want to decide what your using the stamp for. If its for received you may want a smaller stamp to fit your needs. If your trying to put "PAID" on an invoice you may want to go bigger. If your going to use your stamp as a signature pick a size that can fit your name and job title.

Self-inking stamps are great to have around for these tasks. Since they will have a built in pad that refills with each stamp. Just make sure you buy one that you can replace the pad for when your done.

Make sure your type is legible

You want to make sure that whatever information you want on your stamp will be legible. Sometimes people will try to put too much on there stamp and end up with type that is too small to read.

If your making a stamp for your business address. Its more important to have your business name and address than having your slogan. Make sure what you want to say is obvious on your stamp. And what information you need to put on it is clear.

You can always use shorter words that mean the same thing. Like Ste. instead of Suite. Just don't cut too much out of your business name or address. If you don't think someone will need your website or phone number. Then you can remove it from your stamp.

If your going to have a frame or logo on your stamp make sure you leave room for it. Some frames and logos can become blurry if you make them too small.

Create a sample to test your stamp out

You can always put your information on a document and make it the size of your stamp. Print it out and cut it out to test where you will be placing your stamp. This can help you figure out what you need to change about your stamp before you order.

It can also let others see what your stamp will look like. And if they understand your message. If your making an official stamp you will want to know what your state requires. Some may call for a certain size or wording.

Have Multiple Stamps

Its always better to have multiple stamps that you can use for specific tasks. Having one stamp for your address and another for signatures. And a third for a message you want to use often can be helpful. You never know what you will want to add to your stamp down the road.

Having a separate stamp for each thing you want to stamp will be easier when you need to change something. If your phone number changes or you need to update a message you will only need to update that one stamp. Check out our selection of rubber stamps that can help you in your everyday life.
